Glasgow Tigers v Somerset Rebels Heat 15

Travis gets his first Ashfield maximum, while Shane does a few donuts for the crowd.

Glasgow Tigers v Somerset Rebels Heat 8

A great race, with Lee Dicken holding off Mark Baseby, and Anders Andersen eventually losing out to Ritchie Hawkins.

George wears the colours on his sleeve (ok it's his wrist, you know what I mean.....)
Tigers come round after the match, with Shane Parker along for the ride.

Travis exits the frame, with Josh holding off Lubos Tomicek.

Same race as above, with Josh out on his own.

Anders holds off Mark Baseby & Kyle Howarth. Only three points, but paid for five. Anders was good entertainment, but didn't get the return he deserved, mainly because he was getting squeezed out badly in the opening bends.

Josh looking stylish through the 3rd bend. Should have scored about nine, but got thumped with an exclusion in his 1st heat for being the cause of a 2nd 'unsatisfactory start'.

I have real problems telling some of the Somerset team apart, due to their matching Kevlars & bike covers. Going by the riding style and the lower segment of his helmet, I think this may be none other than Ashfield legend Shane Parker.

Big Lee

Jamie Courtney got man of the meeting for his eight points from six rides. A heat win, two 2nd places and a 3rd, with two unprogrammed rides contributing half his haul. Definitely improving a bit.

An absolutely heaving Ashfield awaits the start of heat 5. Yes, they were freebies, and yes many won't be back, but of the 1800 or so in the ground, if a hundred come back, even on a semi-regular basis, the exercise will have been worthwhile.

As far as I can tell, this is heat 8 and it's Lee Dicken from Linus Ekloff & Casper Wortmann.

Start of heat 13. McGowan cuts Lanham's nose off out of the gate. A little naughty, but the ref let it go.

A big thankyou to Neil Hewitt for lending me his memory card at my time of need, and emailing me the pics last night and today

Michael Penfold. Tough afternoon for the youngster. Hopefully with a week to shake off jet lag he'll do a bit better.

A Change Of Scenery

This week, with no meeting on at Ashfield, I decided to take in the Monarchs meeting at Armadale, against Rye House.. Not a bad meeting, all told, with scores fairly close until mid meeting, when the Monarchs pulled out a wee bit of a lead.

Next stop was Berwick and Shielfield Park for the meeting between Berwick & Newport. It was ruined a bit by the no-show of two of Newports Scandinavian lads (their van broke down). Despite the massive hole this left in the team, Newport made a decent fist of things, eventually losing out by 20 points. It ought to have been more..... SDhielfield is a big bugger of a track & very fast. Lacks a little in the way of overtaking at times, but as the meeting wore on, some passing was witnessed, mainly by mad New Zealander Jade Mudgway. Some breathtaking passes and a balls out style.

I'll definitely go again sometime, just as long as someone remembers to round up Dick Barrie before the meeting & lock him in one of the riders vans for the duration............... >:(

Edinburgh V Rye House

Some 1st bend shots taken before the sun went down. Forgot to lift my memory card, so the shots are a little lacking in resolution. Apologies for the lack of captions. I'm too lazy to identify the riders..........

Berwick V Newport

The spectacular Jade Mudgway. His flat out blasts around the boards provided a fair whack of the entertainment on Saturday night.
Anders Anderson doesn't seem to have got to grips with the Berwick track. He's much better away from home though.

Lining up at the tapes.

2nd bend action
Adrian Rymel makes a rare mistake on the 2nd bend.

Glasgow Tigers 23 Kings Lynn Stars 25 (Match Abandoned After Heat 8, Result Does Not Stand)

Says it all. Flag courtesy of George, Nick & Bongo....
Lee Dicken in heat 8. A close look shows the rain starting to kick in. It became hail, then a heavy-ish shower. After that the captains took a look at the track and decided to call it a day. Why does it never chuck it down at half past seven on a Sunday evening? >:(

Mitchell losing it in the 4th bend. Another broken chain.......

An effortless display from TMcG, beaten only by the swift gating Richard Lawson.

Josh celebrates again.

They should do this more often. A much more impressive entrance than the old flat-bed truck....
