Extras: Giants v Colts photos

Josh accepts his 2008 Rider Of The Year trophy.
Gary Beaton on his way to a maximum in the Giants v Colts meeting.

John McPhail, ahead of Dale Lamb on his competitive debut.
Didn't get what I wanted of the 2nd half junior fixture as far as video and phots are concerned. The light was fading fast, so what I took was pretty poor quality and only the two shots above made the cut.
Scorecard can be found at Unofficial Glasgow Speedway.

More Transport Museum Shots

Strange The Things You Find

I'd completely forgotten the Glasgow Transport Museum had a small speedway display. Theres an old three speed Douglas, Steve Lawsons Weslake engined machine and a manequin with a set of his old leathers on. Ok, it's not much, but it was a pleasant surprise. Theres also two huge photos mounted on the wall behind the display. One from Ashfield in the 50's (I think) and one of David McAllan taken some years back. Theres also the classic Giants programme cover with the wee man shouting on then city rivals The Tigers.

Glasgow Tigers 48 V Redcar Bears 47

Sorry folks, no time for any babble from me. Shane badly bashed up and a decent lead lost to a fairly rampant Bears side. Full report here and score-card here. Cheers!

Glasgow Giants Vs Northside Stars

James McBain

Glasgows first Academy League match got underway the weekend before last, after the Workington meeting. A lineup of Gary Beaton, Ricky Lee Beecroft, John Morrison and James McBain took on a Stars side of David Haigh, John MacPhail, Mark White and James Cartmell that had narrowly won at Workington the night before.

A bit of a nightmare for the Stars all told. Beaton and Morrison recorded two victories each, McBain taking one and Beecroft managing a 2nd and two thirds. Despite an opening heat win for David Haigh, it was a variety of engine failures for Northsides Mark White and a series of tumbles that put paid to Northsides hopes. The score ran out at 27 - 8 to the Giants.
